Someone in a remote-work community described Heymaty.com to me as a place where online discovery is supposed to lead to actual conversation rather than endless passive scrolling. In simple terms, Heymaty is a modern social hub where people can find creators, explore new ideas, notice events and activities happening around them, and build connections with others who share similar interests. Instead of separating those things across several apps, the platform tries to keep them within one social space. I decided to explore Heymaty while looking for people interested in small creative side projects. I work with people from different countries quite often, and one problem with larger social networks is that interesting posts can disappear under recommendations, advertisements, and unrelated viral content. On Heymaty, I found it easier to move from discovering someone’s work to having a normal discussion about the idea behind it. One example was a creator sharing a concept for a small community photography challenge. I originally opened the post because the theme was interesting, but the comments turned into a broader conversation about how people photograph everyday city life in different countries. Several users contributed examples from their own cities, and the creator responded instead of simply collecting reactions. That exchange gave me a better idea of what Heymaty can offer when people actually participate. Communication is probably the part I appreciate most. Finding talented people online isn’t particularly difficult anymore; finding people who are willing to exchange thoughts, answer questions, collaborate, or introduce you to another useful contact is much harder. Heymaty creates opportunities for those conversations to develop naturally. You can discover a person because of their content, continue talking because you share an interest, and potentially end up with a useful professional or personal connection. The local-events aspect also makes the platform more interesting internationally. Even when an event isn’t relevant to my location, seeing what communities are organizing elsewhere can provide inspiration. For someone traveling, relocating, studying abroad, or working remotely, that combination of people, ideas, and nearby activities could be especially useful. There are still areas where Heymaty could improve. Some interests naturally have more activity than others, so the experience can depend on what you’re searching for. I’d also like even more filtering options as the amount of content grows. At the same time, I would rather have a smaller number of relevant interactions than hundreds of meaningless notifications. For me, the strongest point of Heymaty is that discovery doesn’t necessarily stop at viewing somebody’s profile. There is room to exchange ideas and turn shared interests into conversations that feel worthwhile.
